BENGALURU: Panic gripped JP Nagar 3rd Phase on Thursday morning after a 26-year-old nurse was allegedly chased and attacked with a machete and acid by her husband over a marital row near a private clinic, leaving shocked onlookers and passersby fleeing for safety amid the sudden assault.The injured woman has been identified as Madhumitha, who is from Kolkata and had been working as a nurse at the clinic for one-and-a-half years.Based on the primary investigation, police said that around 9.15am, she had stepped out to have breakfast when her husband, Venkatesan, a native of Tamil Nadu, chased her to the clinic parking area in the basement of the multi-storey building.According to police, Venkatesan arrived on a bike carrying a knife, machete and acid. He attacked Madhumitha with the machete and then threw acid at her before fleeing the spot.Madhumitha reportedly raised an alarm and ran into the parking area, prompting the hospital staff and locals to intervene.A few people tried to protect her by hitting the accused with stones, but he attempted to attack them as well.Meanwhile, traffic police posted at a nearby signal noticed the commotion and apprehended Venkatesan when he was trying to escape.Madhumitha, who suffered serious injuries, is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.JP Nagar police visited the spot and conducted an inspection before taking Venkatesan into custody. Police are questioning him to ascertain the exact motive behind the attack.
